Benefiet: Concert for Peace
Op zondagavond 6 maart vindt er een speciaal benefietconcert voor Oekraïne plaats. Talloze klassieke musici van het hoogste niveau bundelen hun krachten.
Dit gebeurt naar aanleiding van een statement (zie hieronder) van de Oekraïense pianiste Anna Fedorova en het daaropvolgende verlangen om ‘iets’ te doen. Celliste Maya Fridman en percussionist Konstantyn Napolov haakten direct aan en al gauw volgden vele andere bekende musici. Ticket opbrengsten en vrijwillige bijdragen komen direct terecht bij Giro 555.
Naast celliste Maya Fridman ontvangt Anna Fedorova andere muzikale vrienden. Waaronder violiste Liza Ferschtman, pianiste Nino Gvetadze, violiste Rosanne Philippens, slagwerker Konstantyn Napolov en leden van het Concertgebouworkest. Het programma bestaat uit klassieke meesterwerken die de kracht van de menselijke geest benadrukken, maar ook werken van de Oekraïense componisten Valentyn Silvestrov, Myroslav Skoryk, Maxim Shalygin en Svyatoslav Lunyov nemen een belangrijke plaats in. Speciaal voor deze avond schrijft de Componist des Vaderlands Martin Fondse een nieuw werk dat alle musici gezamenlijk als een eenheid uitvoeren. De Grote Zaal van Het Concertgebouw wordt speciaal voor dit concert in kleuren van de Oekraïense vlag belicht.

The Statement
It is impossible to express in words what is happening in my heart right now. Being both from Russian and Ukrainian descent I could never imagine that the worst nightmare would become a reality. Dear friends, thank you for the incredible amount of messages of concern, support and help from all corners of the world. It means the world to me and my family.
Luckily I managed to fly my parents to Amsterdam just a few days before the invasion. But while we are in the Netherlands, all our hearts, fears and hopes are with our friends, family and all the people in the Ukraine.
The piece “Dedication” is written by my father Borys Fedorov (he was born in Russia and lived in Ukraine for the last 35 years) and we, with Dana Zemtsov, whose father was also born in Russia and Nicholas Schwartz, whose origins from father’s side lie in Ukraine, would like to share it with you as it expresses our feelings so much better than any words. This is a message of peace and call to stop the war. If anyone else of my musician friends is inclined to share music as a call for peace, maybe we feel more united. It is heartbreaking to see how Russian and Ukrainian people are killing each other, how the country I was born and grew up in is bombed and getting destroyed.
